At Home With Swara Bhasker

Swara Bhaskar is one of my favourite women in Bollywood. She has a credible body of work and a kickass sense of humour – I happen to be a huge fan of both. Recently, Swara was kind enough to give me an elaborate tour of her gorgeous Mumbai apartment, when I launched a full-blown home invasion on her. Situated on Yari Road, Swara has a wonderful house filled with hand-picked frames adorning all the walls and some really quirky furniture pieces. Being a Bollywood buff myself, I couldn’t help but be very impressed with Swara’s retro frame collection! Even before you enter the house, you are greeted by two massive posters of two of my favourite Bollywood classics – Deewar and Mughal-E-Azam. Another thing that instantly catches your attention at Swara’s place is her love for tiny knick knacks. She has accessorised her abode with several small vibrant objects – a little printed kettle here, a cute Russian doll there. Swara’s choice of furniture is also dynamic. For instance, her super comfy living room sofa may be in a solid red, but her cabinet is bursting with multiple colours.

You can tell that Swara has been involved in doing up her space by the vibe of the house. Oh, she also has three cats – one of whom, she threw on me (Keep scrolling for that.)

While taking me through her home, she told me something really funny:

I have a book buying obsession because I have intellectual anxiety. I keep feeling that I am becoming stupid now that I am a heroine. My grey matter has reduced after wearing so many heels. So I keep buying books obsessively.
