Pantone’s Color of the Year 2023 Has Been Unveiled: Know Why It Should be Present in Your Home

Pantone wants you to turn your home into a Magentaverse. Just kidding (maybe?)! Viva Magenta- the colour set to take over 2023 has finally been unveiled and is, in part, a creation of Midjourney, an AI tool. AI is finally taking over colours too!

While Pantone explains Viva Magenta as a carmine red that sits right in the middle of warm and cold tones, it has sparked a debate if it looks pinker than red. Either way, we are just thankful that we can finally add a pop of colour to our desaturated, minimalist designs!

Viva Magenta, Pantone’s Colour of 2023

Taking a “fist in a velvet glove” approach, Pantone decided to take our fascination with nature up a notch and placed it against Metaverse to create an assertive pinkish-purplish-red (as per Wiki) shade.

PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta is inspired by the Cochineal beetle that produces the world’s strongest and brightest carmine dye–explaining its earthy connections. It, then, marries nature with technology through Midjourney, and voila, you have got a radiant magenta-red tone that isn’t quite warm or cold but screams warmth and…AI.

And it is set to take over your 2023. So, how can you incorporate this shade of ‘fierce grace’ in your home in tandem with Viva Magenta’s rollout in 2023?

Decking Up Your Home in Viva Magenta

Viva Magenta might not be the easiest colour to play with, owing in part to its almost digital-like unnatural appearance, but it sure screams style, albeit darker than Valentino’s intensely luxurious Hot Pink couture. It kind of fizzes and vibrates, is bold, eye-catchy, and mysterious. It can also be referred to as a la some of the imagined distant galaxies.

And now, you can bring this primordial yet future-looking shade to your homes. Here are 6 ways to do it.

1. Paint Them Walls Hybrid Red

For times when you are feeling ‘brave, fearless and pulsating’- to quote Pantone, just splash your room’s walls in Viva Magenta and lo, behold you are in Amélie’s room…but with walls a little pinker than her deep red.

Want to be more rebellious? Then, a lacquered crimson-red wall works just as well.

2. Or…Hold the Door (Hodor!)

If you think this dynamic hue is way too bold for your room, then use it as a front door accent. It will brighten up your place while adding some jazz and pizazz to your neutral and minimalist interiors. Above all, it would be a fresh, on-trend take on the classic red door, while still fitting in naturally with Lynch’s Blue Velvet decor.
3. Sit Pretty in Crimson

If you have loved Emily in Paris as much as we did, chances are you were equally, if not more, taken in by the beautiful interiors of the hotel Brooklyn stayed in. While we can’t promise you an Eiffel tower view, we can promise a two-seater sofa, which is almost Viva Magenta, but mostly crimson.

4. Attractive Accents

Unleash the power of the colour of the year in small doses by using it in easily changeable furnishings like cushions that are saturated red, yet borderline Fuschia or abstract art pieces in shades of magenta. Pair and contrast them against neutral shades, like greys and blues, to make your living room pop. Or go traditional with a monochromatic bench.

5. Lit in Red

Love Deadpool? Then imagine that outfit’s red on your pendant lights! Too graphic? Then play up with your lighting by going for colour drenching, or a magenta glass lighting fixture. Or you could choose to become the talk of the town by projecting an NFT of Zuckerberg in Viva Magenta T-shirts on your white walls. Yes, we are tired of the grey Ts!

6. Dine in Magenta

Add a magenta ikebana floral arrangement to your all-neutral dining room while being served in Viva Magenta dining plates to pack a trendy punch. Even better, inject bold hues into your kitchen by bringing in clayey red appliances that add drama and spice to your space.
